Finding the Kingdom of God

Lesson:  The Kingdom of God

Bible Passage:

Open a map before the children.  Tell them “I have here a map of the Kingdom of God.  How many of you believe that God’s Kingdom has boundaries?”  Wait for raise of hands.

“You’re right!  Now, how many of you think that God’s Kingdom doesn’t have boundaries?”  Wait for raise of hands.

“You are right too!  The Kingdom of God can be found in a place like Sacramento or California (put in your own local references).  But it also can be found beyond borders.  The Kingdom of God can be considered as heaven or a place where everyone loves everyone else.  The Kingdom of God is where we all live in the loving presence of God, following God’s rule and giving ourselves to God.  This is really hard because we like our stuff – our TV shows and our Ipods and our Barbies and baseballs – and we don’t want to give them up.  And I’m not saying you have to.  But when you live a life that is God-centered, you don’t need that other stuff.  So what I want you to think about is not what the next cool thing is you’re gonna get, but what can you do to give – give to your family, give to your friends and, ultimately, give of yourself to God.  Now let’s go to Sunday School and learn more.
