Who Are Your Brothers and Sisters?

LESSON:  We Are One in Christ’s Family
BIBLE PASSAGE: Mark 3:20-25, et al

Today I want to introduce you to someone very special. (Take two unrelated children) Jane – this is your brother, Michael.  Michael, this is your sister, Jane.  Kim, this is your sister, Terry.  Terry, this is your brother, Kim.  (Continue these introductions for no more than four times.)  All of you up here are brothers and sisters, for Jesus says “Whoever does God’s will is my brother and my sister.”  And if we are brothers and sisters to Jesus, we are brothers and sisters to each other!  But wait – there are some other folks to whom I would like to introduce you.

(Turn to the adult congregation)  If you are a sister of these children, please stand or raise your hand. (Not all folks are able to stand. Wait for the women to rise.)
And if you are a brother to these children, please stand or raise your hand.

(To the children) Do you see all your brothers and sisters out there?  Every one of them is related to you through Christ.  And I’ll wager every one of them loves you very much.

Let’s all say “thank you” to God for the family God has given us through the love of Jesus Christ.  And for this great gift and blessing we do say “thank you” and let all God’s children say, “Amen!”
