Pentecost I

Lesson:  The Spirit of Pentecost

Bible Passage:  Acts 2:1-3

Read Acts 2:1-3 to the children – When the day of Pentecost came, (the disciples) were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

SPEAKER:  This “violent wind from heaven” filled them with the spirit which will be the start of the Christian church.

I want you to consider the kind of wind that fills you with Christian love and action.  Most of the time I imagine it’s a gentle breeze that is constantly within you.

(Float feathers above the children)

Sometimes we are reminded of all the fun things with which God has blessed us.

(Have a performer on a woodwind insturment play a short, playful tune or blow into a pinwheel)

And sometimes, the spirit moves us in such a strong way that we know the love of Jesus fills us so much that we want to do amazing things to let everyone know the power of Jesus.

(Have someone enter the church with a leaf blower turned on full.  To ad to the fun, to finish the Moment with the Leaf Blower still going)

So whether it’s the gentle knowledge of God’s unceasing love within you, the awareness of all the blessings we have or the power that comes from teaching the lessons of Jesus Christ in everything we do and say, each one of us knows we are special, because each one of you knows you are a Child of God.
