What is God’s Favorite Color?

Lesson: You are loved just as you are
Bible Passage:  Mark 1:9-15, Genesis 9:8-15

This Moment can be used any time, but might be best for a “diversity celebration,” or the Sunday closest to Martin Luther King’s birthday.  In the YouTube presentation (see below), you will see that I tried to use the stained glass window of the church.  However, I recommend you acquire a white shirt – perhaps from a thrift store – and some sidewalk chalk.  As in all these Children’s Moments, make the Moment your own.

Do you know what God’s favorite color is?  I think it is purple.  So I am going to make myself purple.  (Take purple chalk and rub it on yourself)  Hmmmm.  Unless God’s favorite color is red.  I think it is red.  (Take the red chalk and do the same.  Follow this script with as many different colors as you wish).
But you know what?  These are not God’s favorite colors.  God gave us all the colors, in the rainbow and in the world.  Do you know what God’s favorite color is? (Lower your voice.  If possible, speak to each child individually.  Hold the child’s hands or cup her face.  Make this as intimate as possible between you and the child).  You are God’s favorite color.  (Go to the next child.  Hold his hands, so he can see himself)  You are God’s favorite color.  (Do this with each child, if possible.) (After the last child) …and do you know what?  I am also God’s favorite color!  I don’t need to change myself or dress in certain clothes or be a special way.  God loves me just as I am. And God loves you.
(Close in a prayer, thanking God for loving us and for letting us know – WE are God’s favorite color)
