We Are Created In God’s Image

Lesson: We are God’s creations
Bible Passage: Genesis 5

This will require members of the congregation to be prepared to stand up during the Moment and speak loudly.  It is best to have as varied-looking a group as possible, include race, age, etc.

READER:  What does our Creator God look like?  Is God an old man with a long white beard?  Or a beam of light?  What do you think?  (You can wait for responses from the children, but good luck)  Here is what the Bible says about what God looks like.

(Reading from Genesis 5.  Actually read from a Bible, so that the children become comfortable with it.  Choose the version with which you are most comfortable, but be aware some books use “man” instead of “people.”  Try to be inclusive.) When God created mankind, God made them in the likeness of God. God created them male and female and blessed them. And God named them “People” when they were created.

FIRST MAN STANDS UP:  “I was created in God’s image.”

READER: When God created man…

SECOND MAN STANDS UP: “I was created in God’s image.”

READER:  …he was made in the likeness of God.”

THIRD MAN:  “I was created in God’s image.”

READER:  God created them male and female

FIRST WOMAN:  “I was created in God’s image.”

READER:  and when they were created

SECOND WOMAN:  “I was created in God’s image.”

READER:  “…God called them ‘people.’

MEN AND WOMEN TOGETHER:  “I was created in God’s image.”

All speakers should remain standing.

READER:  God made people in God’s own image.  So what does God look like?  God looks like (name the people standing).  But more importantly, God looks like you.  And if God looks like you, don’t you think God wants you to behave in a way that is a good reflection on God?  As we go to Sunday School, let’s learn more ways how we can do that.
