Lesson: We are all one in Christ
Bible Passage: Romans 12 and Matthew 19:14, Mark 10:14 and Luke 18:16 (“Let the little children come to me”)
How many of you can walk on your hands? Why not? What do we walk on? Our feet! Why? Because our feet are made for walking, not our hands.
Can we eat with our ears? No. Can we talk out of our belly buttons? No. And why not? Because each part of our body has a specific job. Our ears are for hearing and our belly buttons are for… Well, never mind that.
Our Bible tells us “Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of his one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.”
This means that we all have jobs to do in the church. What job do you do in the church? (Wait for response) Well, what is it? What is it that you do for the church? (If no response, proceed)
Do you acolyte? Do you sing in the church choir? Have you ever written a note or drawn a picture on a card for a church family member who can’t come to services?
Is the fact that you are just here good enough? Well, yes it is. Because your being here reminds all of us of Jesus’ word to “Let the children come to me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Each of us has an important part to share in this church and we are blessed with the many parts of the church that surrounds us here.
Let’s say a prayer. Let’s say thank you to God for bringing us to Bethany, so we may share the glory that is your son. May we know our gifts and share them with our church family and with those who don’t know your love. May we live the life of peace and love that you taught us in everything we say and everything we do.
Amen.
