Candy and the Bible

With the Children around you, begin reading a very dull passage from the Bible. You are interrupted by a a child unwrapping a very noisy piece of candy,

“What are you doing?”

“Eating candy.”

“Why?’

“’cause it’s sweet and I like it.”

“We’re studying the Bible here, you know.”

“I know”

“Do you think eating sweet things has anything to do with the Bible?”

“Well, in Exodus the Lord showed Moses a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water and the water became sweet.”

“Yeah.”

“And in Nehemiah, he said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks and send to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord.”

“Uh, huh.”

“And Matthew tells us that John the Baptist’s clothes were made of camel’s hair and he had a leather belt around his waist and he ate locusts and wild honey.”

“So what you are saying is that there IS sweetness to be found in the Bible.”

“Uh huh!”

“Hmmm. Maybe should be reading my Bible more often. Who knows what else I may find.”

“Candy?”

“Don’t mind if I do.”
