(If you have a church orchestra or band or if there are musical people in the congregation – or even those who are not musical but have woodwind or brass instruments, engage them in helping you with this moment. This moment also may require the expenditure for kazoos or other simple, wind-inspired instruments)
Lesson: The Spirit of Pentecost
Bible Passage: Acts 2:1-3
Read Acts 2:1-3 to the Children – When the day of Pentecost came, (the disciples) were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
“The sound like the blowing of a violent wind…”
What do you think that wind sounded like? It was a very real thing that came from heaven. Do you think it sounded like (make a noise or use a musical instrument)? Or did it sound like (another sound or musical instrument)? (Continue this for as long as it is entertaining)
That wind that blew a long time ago in a place far, far away can still be heard today in so many ways – when we laugh, when we pray, when we sing and when we share the Good News that comes with knowing Jesus. For now, let us share the joy that the Holy Spirit brings us every day. And one way to do that is with these musical instruments.
(After prayer, lead the children out of the church and to Sunday School in a musical parade.)
