Everything Comes From God

Lesson: Everything Comes from God
Bible Passage: Deuteronomy 8:7-18

In this Moment, you will need to make Playdough.  The best recipe I found is 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup water.  I also added a pack of cherry-flavored gelatin for color and you will need a bowl.  I recommend you make a test batch at home before making a fresh batch at the Moment.  You can use a “Jesus Box” if you want and take the ingredients out of that or just bring them to the Moment.

Who knows what this is?  This is flour, which we can use in baking.  Do you know who makes flour?  Well, yes, General Mills, but flour comes from God.  Flour comes from wheat and wheat comes from the ground and God makes the ground and God makes the wheat grow and God makes the farmer who harvests the wheat.  (Throw the flour into the bowl)

This is salt.  Who makes the salt?  Yes, God makes the salt and the salt people package it for us.  Salt is very important throughout history and in cooking and it comes from God. (Throw the salt into the bowl)

What’s this?  I don’t know either – some red stuff. But God made it, so let’s throw it in.  (Throw it in)

Water?  Who makes the water?  Of course God makes the water.  In goes the water.  (Put the water in the bowl)

(Begin kneading all the ingredients together.  You should have your dough in less than a minute.  Meanwhile, keep talking)

Everything we have comes from God.  The wood and the rocks to build our church come from God.  The material to make the clothes on our back comes from God.  The food we eat – it all comes from God.  And look at this! (Show the dough) Do you know who made this? (If you do this right, at least one kid will say, “God.”)  No!  I made this!  Weren’t you watching?  But everything that went into this came from God.  Just like everything you have (show dough), everything you wear (show the mess on your hands) and everything you eat (Pause – then take a bite of the dough and eat it.  CAUTION – take a tiny bite.  It won’t kill you, but it won’t be pleasant.  Have the extra water handing for drinking) comes from God.

Every day, I want you to say a prayer.  Pray for all the important things in your life that need prayer, but never forget to thank God for all the blessings God has provided.  Even if your prayer is only three words – “Thank you, God” – you will remember how much you are loved and how much you have.
And I know that God will hear that prayer.  Because I know you are a Child of God.
