Lesson: Why we celebrate Easter on this date
Bible Passage: Lent, Easter
I will tell you right now, good luck with this one. It is a song based on a very old tune called, “Is It True What They Say About Dixie?” If you are not familiar with it – and I don’t blame you if that’s the case – check it out at this link. If you do not want to sing this, you could try it as a “spoken song.” I tried to sing this A Capella and it didn’t work. I would love to see it done right. The words are original with me.
WHY IS TODAY THE DAY WE HAVE OUR EASTER?
Exactly when did Jesus leave the grave?
He came to teach us
He came to help us
But most importantly, it is our souls that he came to save!
Now you’re probably asking yourself, my dears, why we chose this specific day,
To celebrate our true and living lord?
Is it by random, is it by chance is it the same in Paris, France?” Well, I’m here to tell you, why we chose today.
It goes back to the time
Before the Israelites took flight
And Moses said, “Will you let my people go?”
But the Pharoah he said “No.”
And the people went “uh oh’!” And the angel of death passed over them that night.
It’s a joy when we celebrate Easter
And that Jesus Christ arose up from the grave
He came to teach us
He came to help us
But most importantly, it is our souls that he came to save!
So our Easter celebration is around Passover
But there’s so much you all still need to learn
Is it in March or April – May?
When do we celebrate this day?
Well, we’ll understand the reason, then adjourn.
The date was chosen by the church, in a very specific way;
Including when we mark the start of Spring
It’s on March twenty-two
When that first robin’s due
When we begin to calculate this thing.
It’s a joy when we celebrate Easter
And that Jesus Christ arose up from the grave
He came to teach us
He came to help us
But most importantly, it is our souls that he came to save!
So after the first day of spring and the flowers are in bloom
A full moon, the astronomers record.
And that moon lights the way,
To the very next Sunday;
And that is when we celebrate our Lord!
And it’s a joy when we celebrate easter
And that Jesus Christ arose up from the grave
He came to teach us
He came to help us
But most importantly, it is our souls that he came to save!
