Lesson: Jesus is alive and he loves you
Bible Passage: The Easter Week story
This Moment requires palm branches, lilies and roses. You should have enough roses for every child and I strongly recommend you have all the same color. Otherwise, the Moment could be lost while someone wants a red rose and another wants a yellow. I speak from experience.
What is the greatest reminder we have of Easter? Do you see these palm branches? They remind us of how Jesus came into Jerusalem and everyone cried “Hosanna!” and loved him and by the end of the week, Jesus was arrested and crucified and buried and everyone denied knowing him. So the palm is and important part of Easter, but not the most important.
Here is an Easter Lily. A lot of people connect this to Easter and it is certainly beautiful. But it is not the most important reminder of Easter.
We know that Jesus rode into Jerusalem and everyone loved him. But then, he was arrested, everyone turned from him, he was crucified and he died. Make no mistake, Jesus was dead, dead, dead. So they wrapped him up and placed him in a cave for burial. But on the third day, the rock in front of the cave was moved away and we learned the most important reminder of Easter: (present rose for first time to the children) Jesus Rose.
Jesus rose from the dead and he is alive today – as alive as you and I. And his message is “I love you.” So always remember the most important reminder of Easter – (Present each child a rose as you say this, individually, to each child) – Jesus rose. And he loves you.
