Christmas Time Interruptions!

Lesson: Christmas is a time for many fun events, but always remember the Christmas Story.

Bible Passage: Luke 2:13

YOU invite the children to join you.

“Good morning! As we get closer to Christmas time, I want to read you a story. This is from the Book of Luke in the Bible. (Begin reading Luke 2:13) ‘…the shepherds said to one another, Let’s go to Bethlehem…”

CHOIR (begins singing a Christmas carol, interrupting the reading)

YOU to Choirmaster: “What are you doing?”

CHOIRMASTER: “We’re singing a Christmas carol. It’s Christmas time! Do you want to join us?”

YOU: Not right now, thank you. We’re in the middle of something. (continue reading) “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which…”

ADULT begins decorating Christmas tree.

YOU: “Hello? What are you doing?”

ADULT: “Just decorating the Christmas tree. It’s Christmas time, you know!”

YOU: “That looks like fun, but not right now, okay?”

ADULT stops and sits with the Chilren.

YOU: “Thanks. Let’s see… (Continue reading) …that has happened, which Lord has told us. So they hurried…”

SECOND ADULT enters, wearing a Santa suit. “Ho, Ho, Ho! MERRY CHRISTMAS!”

YOU: “(Mention person by name), what are you doing?”

SECOND ADULT: “I’m playing Santa Claus – isn’t it obvious?”

YOU: “Why are you playing Santa Claus?”

SECOND ADULT: “That’s because – all together, kids! – it’s Christmas time!”

SECOND ADULT sits with the Children.

YOU: “It is Christmas time. And there are so many wonderful things going on. Presents and lights and songs and so much more. These are all great fun – I love ’em! But amidst all the excitement , all the stuff, let’s remember what we are celebrating – Jesus’ birth, the son of God; sent to us from God to give us God’s message of peace and sharing and of never-ending love. So let’s go out and remember that message, all the year ’round, but especially now. Because, as you know (all together), IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME!”
